Shows 70 -72

In a world of constant change and often upheaval, beit moving changing houses or flats, changing or changes in jobs, changes in relationships, one thing that is constant throughout our lives is some of the music we carry with us. Even though I've researched hundreds if not thousands of bands and find new great ones past or present weekly, I still have my own set of favourite of favourite albums that I play from time to time. And particular favourite tracks. I might add new favourites and new albums but there is a fixed and unchangeable constancy about some of them. Long may this stay so! As I am sure it is with you!

And if I get you to add some albums or rock tracks to your all-time favourites list, I am doing a great job with my shows! There are more great bands, great tracks and great albums out there than you or I can imagine!

Rock Show  70

"2 Minutes to Midnight" is a rather bleak single  from Iron Maiden's 1984 and  fifth album Powerslave, reaching #11 in the UK Singles Chart and #25 on US Billboard Top Album Tracks. It makes reference to a ‘Doomsday Clock’ showing the time in relation to US and Russia conflict possibility also with reference to other world powers.  Let’s hope this particular clock never strikes midnight! 2 Minutes to Midnight  with  Iron Maiden.

Can’t believe I’ve got to show 70 without playing the next one!  This is a power ballad to end all power ballads, and as soon as I mention Queen, you’ll know indeed what to expect. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is by Freddie Mercury for the band's 1975 album A Night at the Opera. The song hasn’t a chorus, but has a ballad segment ending with a guitar solo, an operatic passage, and a hard rock section. At the time, it was the most expensive single ever made and remains one of the most elaborate rock recordings ever.  Bohemian Rhapsody  and Queen.

The Rising Storm were six guys from a US prep school in Andover who decided to get together and form a band, which existed between 1964 and 1967, producing some very memorable garage rock, including one 1967 album they recorded themselves, The Calm Before The Storm. They've had several brief reunions since with another three albums resulting. From their first album here's  Frozen Laughter  by The Rising Storm.

"Mama" was the first single from Genesis' 1983 self-titled debut album Genesis.  It is the band's most successful single in the UK, reaching No.4, though it flopped completely in the USA. It's about a young man's mother-like fixation on a lady of easy virtue, that he just happened to meet not sleep with, in passing.  OK, Mama  and it’s by Genesis

Yngwie Malmsteen is a Swedish guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and the leader of his self-named band. Malmsteen is known for his neo-classical heavy metal playing style and is arguably the most technically accomplished hard rock guitarist to emerge from the 1980s. From his 1986 third album Trilogy, I've the track Magic Mirror by Yngwie Malmsteen.

Danish rock group Savage Rose formed up in 1967 and soon hit the road as an established rock band, calling themselves The Savage Rose  rapidly becoming  popular in Denmark and to some extent abroad. After a short split in 1975 they soon reformed in 1977 and moved from incredibly creative psych-pop into dynamic and soulful 70s roots rock, known just as Savage Rose, with their first album in English, the 1995 album Black Angel  being their real commercial break through. I’m going back though to 1968 for A Girl I Knew from their album Savage Rose with  The Savage Rose band.

I don't play a huge lot of tracks by solo female singers, but when I do, they're very well worth playing! "But I Do Love You" is  a song by American country music artist LeAnn Rimes. It came out in the US in 2001 and a year later in the UK reaching the US country charts and UK top twenties and appears on her 2002 compilation album I Need You. And she sure nails it! But I Do Love You  with Leann Rimes.

The next title is variously credited as ‘I Want You’ and “I Want you Back” so checking the CD cover, it is in fact the shorter title that is correct. The song does itself mean though I want you back, no doubt explaining everything!  Well, it’s by British rock band The Kooks, from their 2006 debut album Inside In / Inside Out. OK,I Want You  or want you back, by The Kooks.

Pink Floyd’s 1973 album The Dark Side Of The Moon rates very highly in any top of all time album charts you can think of, and very deservedly so.  Perhaps more surprisingly only one track from the album actually got into the US top twenty singles chart at the time, and that’s the track I’m playing today, titled  Money  and here’s Pink Floyd.

Another song often known by two titles and again by a solo female artist is "The Best" written by Mike Chapman and Holly Knight, originally recorded by Bonnie Tyler on her 1988 album Hide Your Heart. The alternative title being as the song says “Simply The Best”. It was covered by Tina Turner, and released as a highly successful single in 1989 being included on her hit 1989 album Foreign Affair. OK, The Best  or as the song says Simply The Best, Tina Turner

Dax Penick, known as Dax released his first album The Icarus Syndrome in 2003, but went 10 years before making any further releases.  Something of a surprise, and quite a shame as he’s really very good!  The track, Alchemy,  I’m playing is a 2013 digital release that can be  listened to and downloaded for free on Reverbnation. Is there the right? Alchemy  by Dax.

"Child in Time" is a song by  English rock band Deep Purple. A protest song against the Vietnam War, It's on the band's 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock and in full, which we won't have time for here, runs for over 10 minutes. It used to feature regularly in their live concerts but hasn’t since 1996 probably because of the high vocal notes needed in the screaming parts of the song.  Here we are then Child in Time and  Deep Purple.

Looking Glass was an American pop group of the early 1970s, and you might well  remember their 1972 song "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" that sold over a million copies.  Their 1973 second album is titled Subway Serenade and here is a track also featured on the various artists compilation album Super Hits of the '70s: Have a Nice Day, Volume 10. It’s Jimmy Loves Mary Anne  by Looking Glass band!

Close Enough For Rock 'N' Roll is the seventh studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth, released in 1976. The album title refers to a saying among guitar players: it doesn't matter if your guitar is fully in tune, as long as it's "close enough for rock 'n' roll". Well a bit further away and you might want to send a telegram; the title of the next track.  Telegram; Part 1 and Nazareth.

Suzanne Vega's self-named  1985 debut album Suzanne Vega  was well-received  by music reviewers in the U.S. and achieved platinum status sales in the UK.  And  today’s track? Basically, you may visit the queen and make a plea  but she’s the queen, and you are not! The Queen And The Soldier  with  Suzanne Vega.

Waking Up the Neighbours is an album by Canadian singer/songwriter Bryan Adams released in 1991 and his sixth studio album. The most famous track on the album "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" was number one on the British charts for a record-breaking sixteen weeks. On the same album is a track that was also on the international release version only 2005 compilation album Anthology of his. And it's All I Want Is You  and Bryan Adams.

Front Page News is the 1977 eighth album by rock band Wishbone Ash.  It's mostly made up of slower, breezy soft rock ballads with lush vocal harmonies. This style is in marked contrast to their earlier albums, such as Argus, and their next following album reverted to the previous heavier style of rock music.  However the track off the album I’m playing is more of a heavy rocker of a track!  Come In From The Rain  by Wishbone Ash.

"Love Bites" is a power ballad recorded by English rock band Def Leppard in 1987 on their album Hysteria. It's Def Leppard's only number-one single on the Billboard US Hot 100 to date, staying at the top spot for one week only and it just reached #11 in the UK  -  And love certainly can bite!  Ok, Love Bites  and Def Leppard.

"Painkiller" is the opening and title track on British heavy metal band Judas Priest's 1990 album, Painkiller, and released as the first single off the album later that year. I don’t know about relieving pain, the track is more likely to give you a headache, or exacerbate an existing one!   Great rock track!  Painkiller,   Judas Priest.

I’ve a brilliant cover of a Thin Lizzy track next. Jørn Lande is a Norwegian heavy metal singer who has sold over seven million records worldwide. He is known for being the former vocalist of bands Masterplan, Ark, Beyond Twilight, Millenium, Vagabond, and The Snakes, as well as for his successful solo career. The track is a bonus limited edition track on his 2009 album Spirit Black. And it’s  The Sun Goes Down, here with  Jorn Lande.

Battle Hymns is the 1982 debut album of American heavy metal band Manowar.  It’s subsequently been re-recorded by them in 2010 as Battle Hymns MMXI  with six extra tracks, using modern technology, making many of the original tracks 'louder and stronger' and in some cases extending their length. Here from the original is the title track just called Battle Hymn  and Manowar band.

"Don't Expect Me to Be Your Friend" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter  Lobo,  released as a single in 1972. It  got to number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent two weeks at the top of the Easy Listening chart in 1973,  becoming Lobo's third easy listening number one, and his second release in a row to top the chart. It’s basically about how can a man and a woman just be friends, when there’s a lot of attraction chemistry between them.  Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend  by Lobo.

"Magic Bus" is a song written by Pete Townshend during the time that My Generation was being recorded in 1965. But, it wasn't recorded by The Who until 1968. It has since become one of the band's most popular songs and’s been a concert staple, though when released, it only reached #26 in the UK and #25 in the United States. It's on their Magic Bus: The Who on Tour 1968 album.   Magic Bus  and  The Who.

The Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son is a concept from folklore regarding special powers supposedly given to, or held by, such a son, where no girls have been born in between the succession of sons.  And Rory Gallagher does a song with this title on his 1973  third album Blueprint.  Well Rory Gallagher certainly had  some extra special powers as a guitarist and here he is with his track titled  Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.

The 1991 second album by Scottish heavy metal band The Almighty is titled Soul Destruction.  The album's songs centre around four  basic things - love, hate, sex and religion. And the song "What More Do You Want" is about in this instance, Love and Freedom.     OK, to close today’s show What More Do You Want  and The Almighty, as in band.

Rock Show  71

The song I’m opening with today was played nearly 20 shows of mine ago, but I’m more than happy to include it again today!  "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" is a 1990 Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit single by Nelson. It was released in 1990 on Geffen Records and backed with "Will You Love Me". The song incidentally was based on a crush on Cindy Crawford.  It's on their debut album After the Rain of the same year.  (Can't Live Without Your) Love And Affection  by  Nelson band.

Wishbone Ash must quite like the next track, as it appears on two of their albums and on two of their compilation albums.  The song is Everybody Needs A Friend,  first appearing on their 1973 Wishbone Four album, of course their fourth album..  And indeed, Everybody Needs A Friend  Wishbone Ash.

"Highway Star" is one of British rock group Deep Purple's most famous songs. The song is the opening track on the 1972 album Machine Head and is the fastest song (tempo-wise) on the album. Ok, Highway Star   and Deep Purple.

"It's My Life" is a song written by Brill Building songwriters Roger Atkins and Carl D'Errico.  British Rock band The Animals,  released it as a single in 1965. The song was a hit in several different countries, including making the UK top ten and has since been recorded by multiple artists. Unusually it only made it on to one of their compilation albums of previous hits of theirs the 1966, The Best Of The Animals.  Here’s The Animals with It's My Life.

Our Aberdare's very own Ragsy aka Gary Ryland has a new single out, Silver Screen Dream which you can get for 89 pence from Amazon or iTunes. What more can I say, go out and get it!  It’s a great track, here we go with Silver Screen Dream  and it’s by  Ragsy. Enjoy!

Putting one matter right, I played the next song as far back as Rock Show 9 as a cover version by The Damned, but I've neglected to play the original, by US band Love. Love were an American soft rock group of the late 60s and early 70s and one of the first racially diverse such groups, much to their credit.  Their 1967 album Forever Changes is held in particularly high esteem and often appears on lists of the best rock albums of all time. So here we are from album, Alone Again Or by Love. Or is that with Love?!

The Mystic Tide were an American rock band noted for creating some of the very first psychedelic anthems. They are also considered one of the best garage bands of the mid 1960s. They released just four singles, and a compilation album of their material was put together some 25 years after they disbanded.   Ok with one of their singles  Frustration   The Mystic Tide band.

Heavy metal band Dio recorded the song  "Holy Diver" in 1983 as a single and the title track from the band's debut album "Holy Diver" . Although it only reached number 40 as a single on the Mainstream Rock chart, today it is one of Dio's most popular songs.  It has a long instrumental introduction, often omitted for airplay.  Right,  Holy Diver  by  Dio.

Ninja Tuna is an album by Mr. Scruff, released in 2008 on a newly created record label, also titled Ninja Tuna, a collaboration between Scruff and the record label Ninja Tune. The song "Kalimba" comes free in the sample music folder with most Windows 7 computers, which has helped very greatly with the album's success!  Have to admit I never checked out the win 7 samples myself before!   Ok,  Mr Scruff and Kalimba.

He might not have stayed in the top spot for anywhere near as long as The Beatles,  but Northern Irish singer Ronan Keating has more top 40 hits than The Beatles!  This is the first one of his I’ve played, as his songs are mostly pop not rock!  With songs like the next one, it’s no surprise he’s had so many hits. Appropriately, his first solo single and UK chart-topper in 1999 and on his Don’t Close Your Eyes album,  It’s   When You Say Nothing At All  and it’s by Ronan Keating.

How have I not played this next one yet? It’s the second biggest hit by Paul McCartney and his band Wings,  only being beaten in the charts by their later single ‘Silly Love Songs’.   The title track from their 1985 album Band On The Run, The song is a three-part medley.  Seems George Harrison said ‘If we ever get out of here’ at some business meeting or other! And Paul took it from there! Band on the Run, Paul McCartney & Wings

In 1991, Dutch rock band Golden Earring scored a hit in the Netherlands with "Going to the Run", a rock-ballad about a Hells Angels motorcycle gang member who was a friend of the band, who sadly died in a motorbike crash out on a run.  A "run" is what a motorcycle club calls riding their bikes somewhere together.  The song as well as being released as a single is on their 1991 Bloody Buccaneers album. Moving on then to  Going To The Run  by Golden Earring.

Blizzard of Ozz is the debut solo studio album by British heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, released in 1980 in the UK and 1981 in the US. The album was Ozzy's first release after his leaving Black Sabbath and marks his second effort to begin a solo career (his first being in 1978 with members of the band Necromandus using the name 'Blizzard of Ozz').  From this album I’ve the track by Ozzy Osbourne  I Don't Know. Words you probably don't want to hear if you ask to see someone again.

"She's Not There" was originally the debut single by the British rock band The Zombies reaching  #12 in the UK, #2 in Canada and topspot in the US. The song was a hit again for Carlos Santana's band Santana as a single and on their 1977 album Moonflower. So here’s  Santana  performing She's Not There.

It’s funny how things work out sometimes.  American pop/folk duo Seals and Crofts 1974 sixth album is titled Unborn Child,  but the album and concerts were boycotted by pro-abortionists because of one song’s  pro-life stance.  Shame really as it has some great tracks, including  this one Windflowers  by  Seals & Crofts.

Love the lyrics and wonderful melody  in the next one, and it has a great chorus too. Probably my favourite Don McLean song after Vincent. This one, Castles In The Air is from his 1981 Believers album.  Ok, let’s go build some  - Castles In The Air  with  Don McLean.

Not so fussed on the lyrics of the next one, but it’s never-the-less a great rock tune.  "Hair of the Dog" is the title track of Nazareth's 1975 album Hair of the Dog. The song is about a charming and manipulative woman who can get guys to acquiesce to her every need. The singer is letting her know that she has met her match in him, and she won't be able to push him around. Ok Scottish hard rock group Nazareth and Hair Of The Dog.

B B King of course goes back to the 1950s when he did about 350 shows a year, More remarkably in fact very astonishingly, at age 88 he still does 100 shows a year. He did an album in 1969 Live & Well half of live recordings and half of songs by young blues musicians at the time.  The next one from the album is his own song, and he is indeed still Live and Well.  OK his song I Want You So Bad  by  B B King.

"Time" is a track on English progressive rock band Pink Floyd's 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon, and the only song on the album credited to all four members of the band, though the lyrics were written by Roger Waters. It’s about how time can slip by, without realizing it, as if, you spend too much time preparing, you suddenly realize you are living life having wasted too much of it! Not quite out of time yet, here’s  Time  and  Pink Floyd.

"Wish You Were Here" is a ballad by the Swedish techno/folk/bluegrass band Rednex from their 1995 first album Sex & Violins. It was a number-one hit in Austria, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland. Think hill-billies living in Sweden and you won't be far out! As it happens it's a great track!   Wish You Were Here  and it’s by  Rednex.

"Down the Dustpipe" is a song written by Australian singer-songwriter Carl Groszman, who at the time was a client of Valley Music, affiliated to Status Quo’s management in their early days. The group recorded it as a single in 1970, and in Francis Rossi’s words, “it was the first record to feature our soon-to-be trademark boogie shuffle” and it is one of their most popular live concert songs.  It went on a 1975 album of theirs of the same title.  I've a 2003 version,  going Down The Dustpipe with  Status Quo.

"Heaven in My Hands" is a song by the British English pop rock and jazz-funk group Level 42 released as a single in 1988, from their album Staring at the Sun of the same year. It reached number 12 in the UK charts, and was the first single not to feature the Gould brothers, Boon and Phil, following their leaving the band the previous year.  Heaven in My Hands   and Level 42 band.

Are You Gonna Go My Way is the 1991 third album by American rock musician Lenny Kravitz, becoming his first top twenty album, and it is still considered one of his best albums. OK, from the album the track for today is  Is There Any Love In Your Heart  with  Lenny Kravitz.

I am sure we all remember the song Woodstock if we are old enough, if not by Joni Mitchell who wrote it, more likely by Matthews’ Southern Comfort.  Of course it’s about the very famous 1969 Woodstock Pop/Rock festival.  Well Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young did a rocked up version, you might not have heard, that’s on their 1970 album Déjà Vu.  OK last but one today Woodstock   here performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

I’m closing today’s show with "Water on Glass", a song by British singer Kim Wilde from her 1991 self-named debut album. The single was slightly different from the album version and didn't quite make the UK top ten. It’s about Tinnitus otherwise known as ringing or whistling in the ear, which can actually be a very distressing and disabling condition. Water On Glass  Kim Wilde.

Rock Show  72

"It's My Life" is Bon Jovi single from their 2000 album Crush. The song hit #1 across several countries though only making #33 in the US. However, it has the distinction of making Bon Jovi the only band once classified as 1980s hair metal to reach the top 40 in the 2000s. The song is arguably Bon Jovi's most well known post-1980s hit single and has been performed live at almost all their shows since.  Ok here’s It's My Life and it’s by Bon Jovi.

There’ve been three albums over the years with the title ‘Real to Reel’ by different bands but you probably won’t have heard of the band Starcastle. They were a very under-rated US progressive rock band formed up in 1969 that lasted to the early 2000s, albeit with some line-up changes. From Starcastle’s  1978 and fourth album Real to Reel I’ve  the track Nobody's Fool .

The next track is another one from the Unknown Legends of Rock And Roll album and if the band’s name seems a bit strange, it was made up from the start of each of the band members names!   The band did one 1967 self-named album which is very scarce and extremely expensive to get hold of, but fortunately the entire album can be got and listened to on YouTube!  And the track is Supermarket   by Fapardokly.

No. I’m not turning into a slightly rocked version of Val Doonican, but even he wouldn’t baulk at playing the next one!  I’ve got the title track, and yes it is a bit of a crooner from US country singer Willie Nelson’s Always on My Mind 1982 album. It was the Billboard number one country album of the year for 1982 spending 22 weeks at the topspot, and staying for nearly 5 years in the Billboard Top Country Albums charts, Not a Willie Nelson original of course but a really splendid song, as in they don’t get much better! And you are Always On My Mind here with Willie Nelson.

"Don't Stop Me Now" is a 1979 song by English rock group Queen, featured on their 1978 album Jazz.  Somewhat very surprisingly it only got to #9 here and hardly charted at all in the US and was only performed live by Queen during 1979. Despite this the song has grown in stature with time and has been popularised not only by consistent airplay, but by its use in advertisements, television programmes and films, and through cover versions, and has subsequently become one of Queen's most popular songs.  Don't Stop Me Now and Queen.

Another interesting fact about Dutch rock band Golden Earring's 1973 album Moontan, according to Ozzy Osbourne,  is that Tony Iommi also of Black Sabbath had been unable for a while to write any riffs, but on listening to this album he started writing riffs again! Ok, from the album, Are You Receiving Me  by Golden Earring.

‘Never Trust’ is a female-fronted alternative/hard rock band from Milan, Italy, formed in 2007. They play classic hard rock filtered through modern alternative rock that is riff-heavy, hook-laden, and driven by Elisa’s passionate English by the way vocals. From their debut, 2013 album Morning Light I've the track Fade Away   and Never Trust band.

I’ve been mighty impressed with the 2008 album Sunshine by Brazilian Southern Rock band King Bird, who formed up in 2002. And I’m not the only one. Their 2005 debut album Jaywalker was regarded as one of the best debut albums ever by a non-UK non-US band!  Ok, from their album Sunshine here’s  I've Been Looking    by King Bird band.

Think ‘The Shadows” in over-drive for the next one!  "Pipeline" is a surf rock tune by The Chantays, originally recorded in 1962. Not surprisingly, it features in many surf video clips, being surfing a wave pipe and has had many cover versions. We'll have the version by The Ventures from their 2003 album "Guitars Over Texas". The Ventures incidentally are the best-selling instrumental band of all time, outselling even The Shadows.  Ok, Pipeline  and  The Ventures.

The next one is very similar, not a bad thing in this case, to the Crystals' 1963 song Da Doo Ron Ron, and if you guessed the 60s,  you'd be right too as this came out in 1967 on US group The Cowsills self-named album! it's titled The Rain, The Park & Other Things and it's placed time-wise about the same time as 'Flowers In The Rain' by The Move.   Here then, The Rain, The Park, & Other Things   by The Cowsills.

I've a track next from Forever Changes the 1967 third album by the American rock band Love, the final album by the original band, as subsequent albums featured leader Arthur Lee backed by a new line-up.  It didn't sell well at the time, but has become recognized as one of the finest albums to come out of the 1967 Summer of Love.  And the track, Bummer In The Summer,  and Love band.

Moving on to a 2012 track, Swiss band 77 Bombay Street got together in 2007 as a folk and Indie rock group.  They’ve two albums, one “Up In The Sky” in 2011 and Oko Town from 2012 with the delightful number  Follow The Rain  by  77 Bombay Street.  I think we’ve done enough following the rain mind recently!

Which leads us nicely to the next one.  "Jet" is a song by Paul McCartney & Wings released as a single in 1974 from their 1973 album Band on the Run. The song peaked at number 7 in both the British and American charts and is one of their most popular songs. The title Jet comes from the name of a pony he had owned, though it isn't related to the song's lyrics. Jet  and  Paul McCartney with Wings band.

Two members of Ten years After band have got together with a legendary drummer, as a side project, to record some new stuff, as Ten years After play a good bit of their older songs; the side project calling themselves Hundred Seventy Split.  The result, their 2014 album H.S.S. is absolutely outstanding. Just have to love this one. It’s called  Pork Pie Hat  and it’s by  Hundred Seventy Split.

Ok, another very sixtyish one next.   The band Vain was founded in 1986 in the San Francisco area by singer Davy Vain. A few albums along the road and he released their 2011 Enough Rope album,  and the very lovely song I’m playing,  is a true story about this very lovely Russian girl he met.  The song is Treasure Girl   by Vain band.  Beautiful song!

"Dancing in the Dark" is a  1984 song,  by Bruce Springsteen from his Born In The USA album that reached the #2 spot in the USA and went on as a single to sell over a million copies. It became his biggest hit and propelled him to stardom, and the album to become his best-selling album.  OK,  Dancing In The Dark and Bruce Springsteen.

After the Rain is the 1990 debut album of the American rock group Nelson, and as well as the album itself selling very well, two big hit singles also came off the album. I've a great rock tune though off the album itself and it's called I Can Hardly Wait  by  Nelson band.

I’ve a request next, in fact one of two by Sarah from Troon near Cambourne in Cornwall. Hello Sarah! "King For A Day" is a single by British band Thompson Twins from their 1985 album Here's To Future Days. There are two main versions of the song.  The UK version has alternate lyrics and is more synth-based, while the U.S. and album versions contain electric guitar. It didn't quite make the UK top twenty, but made it instead to the US top 10. Let’s be King For A Day with the Thompson Twins.

Coldspell are a Swedish hard rock band formed up in 2005 who play their own particular style of heavy metal. They've three albums out with plenty of catchy tunes and I've chosen a track from their 2009 debut album Infinite Stargaze. It’s called Straight Things Out and it’s by  Coldspell. Great band, great track!

And here’s Sarah’s second request for today’s show! "Union of the Snake" is the lead single from the English band Duran Duran's 1983 and third album Seven and the Ragged Tiger, preceding its release by one month. It became one of Duran Duran's most popular hits peaking at #3 on both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Right then, Union Of The Snake by Duran Duran.

One of the members of the British heavy metal band 'More' from the early 1980s, Laurie Mansworth, left to set up the hard glam rock band Airrace in 1982 with Jason Bonham the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham. They released one very excellent hard driving AOR album in 1984, Shaft Of Light. Here’s the terrific  Do You Want My Love Again, and Airrace band.

No Smoke Without Fire is the 1978 ninth studio album by rock band Wishbone Ash, their first album since 1972's Argus to be produced by Derek Lawrence. It is also the heaviest Wishbone Ash album in years, featuring rockers like the hit single "You See Red" and the two-part progressive rock epic "The Way of the World." So let's rock to You  See Red  and  Wishbone Ash.

Fate for Breakfast is the fourth solo album by Art Garfunkel released in 1979. It didn't do that well compared to his other albums, but  the European release does include the version of the song "Bright Eyes", which featured in the film Watership Down, and which single reached the UK number-one spot , becoming the biggest selling single of 1979 here.  I've the beautiful and lovely track from the album though, When Someone Doesn't Want You  and it’s by Art Garfunkel.

The Outsiders were a Dutch band from Amsterdam popular in the Netherlands  from 1965–67, though they released records until 1969. In recent years their legacy has extended beyond Holland with them today being recognized as a distinctive originator of the garage rock genre.  They released a single in 1965 with one of the sides being  Sun's Going Down  and The Outsiders.

Richard Jones was a member of the Stereophonics, or at least the fledgling version of the Cwmaman South Wales band when they were known as Tragic Love Company. He left to pursue other avenues just prior to his mates going off on a life changing adventure, but he has met up with his old pal and former band mate Kelly Jones to form the occasional and really excellent Aberdare band Fireroad. They’ve a 2014 album out, I Got Sound,  so to close today’s show,  from their album, this one is Leave My Heart  by  Fireroad.  And the album is a must as in must listen to!
